What is NYC Mentors?

NYC Mentors.org Inc. is a registered 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that connects middle school students with older peers to guide, support, and mentor them and their families with the NYC high school application process.

How does mentoring work? Is it safe?

All mentoring sessions are conducted via Skype. Students are mentored online from the safely of their own home.

Terms and Conditions 

By using NYCMentors.org Inc. (“Mentors”) website and services, you signify that you have read, understand and agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.

NYCMentors.org Inc. is a registered 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that connects middle school students with older peers to guide, support, and mentor them and their parents with the NYC high school application process. https://nycmentors.org and information available through https://nycmentors.org may contain features and functionalities that may link or provide access to independent third parties. These links do not imply NYC Mentors.org Inc. endorsement or sponsorship of such third parties.

Enrolling and Applying

By sharing personal information on https://nycmentors.org, you certify that:

(a) you have not committed any crime against a minor, including child abuse, sexual acts and pornography; and

(b) you will not use NYC Mentor Inc’s services or website, or your organization/company, to harm a minor in any way.

Disclaimer of Liability

You agree that there is no confidential or any other special relationship that is or should be formed by use of the NYC Mentors.org Inc. website or information contained on the website.

NYCMentors.org Inc. expressly denies liability and undertakes no responsibility for the conduct of organizations/partners or individuals that are listed on the NYCMentors.org Inc. website. NYCMentors.org Inc. reserves the right to screen or conduct background checks on any individuals or organizations/companies registered with the NYCMentors.org Inc. website.

You agree that you bear all risks associated with the use of any information on the NYCMentors.org Inc. website and any interactions with organizations/Mentors found through the NYCMentors.org Inc. website.

In the event anyone is harmed in any way by any organization or individual, you hereby release NYC Mentors.org Inc., its officers, employees, agents and successors in rights from claims, demands and damages (actual and consequential) of every kind or nature, known or unknown, suspected and unsuspected, disclosed and undisclosed, arising out of or in any way related to such disputes and/or NYCMentors.org Inc.’s service.

Member Content

NYCMentors.org Inc. reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to reject or approve any application, inquiry or enrollment of any volunteer, child or organization/company for any or no reason. NYCMentors.org Inc. does not discriminate based on race, religion, color, sexual orientation, sex, or national origin.

NYCMentors.org Inc. reserves the right to remove any information posted on its website at any time, at its sole discretion. NYCMentors.org Inc. is not liable for any damage or losses, financial or otherwise, that result from removal of information from the NYCMentors.org Inc. website, or from information posted on the NYCMentors.org Inc. website by third parties.

An individual, company or organization may remove its information from the website at any time by sending written notice (electronic or regular mail) of such request to NYCMentors.org Inc.

Anyone who registers to use the NYCMentors.org Inc. website and services is solely liable for the use of their password and account. Parental Consent


This Site is intended for and applicable only for residents of the United States, age 13 or older. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information online from children under the age of 13. If you are from another jurisdiction or under 13 years of age, you may not use this Site.

Why does NYCMentors.org collect personal information and how is such information used? 

NYCMentors.org will use your personal information for the purpose for which it was collected except where you consent to us using the information for other purposes. NYCMentors.org will only collect personal information about you that we need to provide our services or that you have provided in connection with making a donation, applying for volunteering opportunities or otherwise. For example, we collect personal information from you in order to:

  • process applications for service or assistance
  • correct billing for the services or events we provide
  • establish and maintain donor relationships
  • ensure the appropriateness of our services and assist with research and development of new programs and services
  • meet legal requirements

What personal information does NYCMentors.org collect? 

The personal information that we may ask for will depend on the type of relationship you have with NYCMentors.org, for example, whether you are a Parent/mentee, mentor or donor. Examples of the types of information collected include:

    We collect most of this information directly from you where possible, from the forms you fill out, in emails you send us, via our website or from our face-to-face or telephone interactions. We will only collect sensitive information about you where you consent and if this is reasonably necessary for one of our functions or activities. Depending on your relationship with us, we may collect information from third parties (such as your teachers, parents, guardians) if it is reasonably necessary for one of our functions or activities.

    How do we protect and store your information?

    NYCMentors.org will endeavor to take reasonable measures to securely store your personal information either in an electronic or physical form and to keep this information accurate, complete and up to date. Your information is stored in secured premises or in electronic databases that require passwords and logins. This helps to protect your information from misuse, loss, unauthorized access, modification or disclosure.

    We require our employees and data processors to respect the confidentiality of any personal information held by NYCMentors.org. All personal information that is no longer needed for the purpose for which it was collected or that you ask us to delete is destroyed unless we need to keep it for legal reasons. No data transmission over the internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, so NYCMentors.org cannot give an absolute assurance that the information you provide to us via the internet will be secure at all times.

    NYCMentors.org will only ask for information that is necessary for the purposes outlined in this privacy policy. You have a right not to identify yourself or to use a pseudonym when dealing with NYCMentors.org. You do not have to give the information that we request from you, but not giving us the information requested may affect our ability to provide you with a service.

    How do you request access to the personal information NYCMentors.org INC holds about you?

    To the extent that we collect sensitive information from you, such as information about your health, criminal history, ethnicity etc, we comply with the privacy requirements applicable to such information.

    We will not 'spam' you

    We may contact you at the email or other address which you provide to us in order to provide you with updated information about our services (including other products and services you might be interested in). If you are receiving promotional information about NYCMentors.org and do not wish to receive this information any longer, you may remove your name from our distribution list by emailing us and asking to be removed from our mailing list, or selecting “Unsubscribe”. 

    Cookies

    When an individual visit or uses the website of NYCMentors.org Inc, personal information may be collected automatically through cookies including: IP address and/or domain name; operating system (type of browser and platform); and the date, time and length of the visit to the website. This information primarily is used for the compilation of statistical information about the use of the website.

    Website traffic

    NYCMentors.org Inc uses Google Analytics to track visits to our website. Google Analytics is a web analytics tool that helps website owners understand how visitors engage with their website. Google Analytics customers can view a variety of reports about how visitors interact with their website so they can improve it. Google Analytics collects information anonymously. It reports website trends without identifying individual visitors. This information is used to track the effectiveness of websites. Types of data collected include visits, viewed pages and the technical capabilities of our visitors. These statistics will not identify an individual.     Information Collection on Out

    For statistical purposes, NYCMentors.org collects and stores the following information about visitors to its website:

    • server address
    • the date and time of visit
    • the web pages accessed and documents downloaded
    • previous sites visited
    • type of browser used

    No attempts are made to identify anyone browsing our website. The data collected is only used to measure the number of visitors to the different parts of the site and to help us make the site more useful to you. You are able to browse our website without entering any personal information and therefore remain anonymous during your visit.

    We do not use cookies that can identify you when you are in the public section of our website.

    We only record your e-mail address if you make a donation through our website or if you send us a message. This message could be:

    • to make an inquiry to any of the email addresses of NYCMentors.org to give us feedback on our site - we use this to administer and improve our website
    • to subscribe to our newsletter - we only use the information provide
    • to administer the delivery of our newsletter to those requesting it

    NYCMentors.org is not responsible for the privacy practices or content of any third-party site that is linked to its website. Your activity on those sites is covered by the privacy policies of those sites.

    Online donations

    Our donations page is hosted by a secure third-party payment gateway. Donations are processed utilizing 128-bit SSL encryption to protect the transfer of personal and financial information between your browser and our server and credit card details are NOT stored at any time by us. The only information collected and retained by us is the amount of the donation, transaction date, name and contact details as completed on the donation form.

    IXL Learning Policies

    NYC Mentors offers all our middle schoolers the IXL Learning service free of charge. 

    About IXL Learning.

    IXL Learning is provided to all middle school students and must be utilized on a monthly basis as directed by the student’s mentor. 

    Any student that fails to use the IXL Learning system on a monthly basis may have access terminated. All IXL Learning accounts that are dormant for 90 days will be terminated. 


    Chapter President Policy

    NYC Mentors offers NYC high school students the ability to start a school club and become the school’s Chapter President. 

    A school may only have one Chapter President per school year.
